Ok maybe not space, but pretty close to it.  EMI  are holding a special listening party for the new Sigur Ros album Valtari at the Melbourne Planetarium tomorrow evening. And we have a double-pass for two lucky fans to hear the entire album, before it’s release date, surrounded by stars and planets. It’s set to be a sublime, surreal, epic evening. (Photo: Leigha Hodnet) The forces that be will not let Meiko’s singer-songwriter boat glide swiftly into the night. Instead, they want her to tumble and drown in a sea of remixes. On this refit, Morgan Page goes hypnotic house on the joint with a sugary bout of wistful trance that flows seamlessly into Meiko’s indie gem and then into a firewall of synths and jackhammer drums. And then? The bass blows the entire vessel to bits. More destruction on Page’s third club album here, while Meiko’s LP is available here. Meiko - Leave The Lights On (Morgan Page Remix)

You haven’t been to an electronic music show until you’ve been to one in Tokyo. It’s like a parallel universe, where night-life manages to be clean, organised, the sound systems state of the art, and the live shows exceed your expectations. I have just returned from Sonar Sound Tokyo, a 2 day music festival featuring electronic artists from Japan and other parts of the globe. The 6th installation of the festival was a sold-out event with Squarepusher performing an intense set with spectacular visuals that made the crowd go crazy. Akiko Kiama and Horiaki OBA were stand-out…

Bio hazard anyone? So if you are a fan of unusual vinyl and have a spare $2,500 then follow Wayne Coyne on Twitter for details of the sale. I’m not sure how well these records will…

    15 May 2012 | 2:15 pm
Nashville musician Cory Branan will release his third effort, MUTT, on May 22 via Bloodshot Records. The LP, which follows Branan’s prior efforts, 2002’s The Hell You Say and 2006’s 12 Songs, is the artist’s first release for the label, but hopefully not the first thing you’ve heard from him. If it is, though, allow me to introduce “Survivor Blues” – a gritty alt-country number that will make you want to sit out on your porch with a glass of whiskey. At least, that’s what it makes me want to do.

    15 May 2012 | 1:50 pm
Calling this new one from HEALTH 'epic' might be an understatement. The expansive "Tears" cuts a wide swath for itself, pulsating and reverberating in a tone poem tailor-made for a film. Or a video game: The L.A. group's track serves as the basis for the score of the new Max Payne 3. Take that!

    15 May 2012 | 11:30 am
Multi-instrumentalist and producer Jonti's "Nightshift In Blue" would've done Gerswhin proud – a  spaced-out rhapsody that spans its very own universe. For its remix, "Nightshift In Waltz," beat maestro RAJA has conducted a orchestral vibe experiment. It pays off, the slower tempo from the New Yorker traversing a foggy path that's illuminated by stoned bliss. Jonti - Nightshift In Waltz (RAJA Rearrangement)

If you’ve ever wondered what a remix of a mariachi tune sounds like, well, we can help you out. Argentine cumbia collective ZZK has reimagined “Revolution Girls” – a track from Mariachi El Bronx’s 2011 self-titled effort, which came out via ATO last fall. The remix is hypnotic and strange, chopping the track down to its primal essence. In other words, this isn’t a typical club number... unless you frequently dance south of the border. Rubbish bins to be exact. In typical iconoclastic fashion, Stephin Merritt et al have put out a lovely video for the latest single from Love at the Bottom of the Sea: "Quick!", which has at its heart a tentative love affair by two of the loveliest rubbish bins (or "trash cans" for our American audience) you have doubtless ever laid eyes on. The song itself is a strident while utterly heartbroken…
